Senior Software Engineer (PHP)

Ambiscale is a digital solutions company providing web and eCommerce product development, optimization, DevOps/FinOps, and maintenance services. They serve clients across Poland, Europe, and the US, including Żabka, Biedronka, Brand24, and the University of California (Berkeley).

• At least 5 years of commercial experience in a Backend/PHP role
• Very good knowledge of modern PHP (8.2+) and Symfony
• Solid understanding of software architecture, including SOLID, Design Patterns, Clean Architecture, and basics of DDD/CQRS
• Experience with caching, queues, asynchronous processing, and message brokers
• Practical approach to tests, static analysis, code review, Git, and CI/CD
• Experience building secure RESTful or GraphQL APIs and solving performance issues
• Confidence using AI in everyday work with critical review of outputs
• Comfort working with varied client projects and incomplete briefs
• Experience estimating work, identifying assumptions and risks, and requesting missing information
• Ability to explain technical decisions clearly, including to clients
• Fluent English and Polish (at least B2 level)
• Independence, ownership, and openness to honest feedback

Nice to have:

• Experience with Sulu CMS or other PHP frameworks like Laravel or Laminas
• Frontend experience with React / Next.js or Vue / Nuxt.js
• Experience with modern PHP runtimes such as FrankenPHP, Swoole, or RoadRunner
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, Headless CMS, or Composable Commerce

• Building and scaling enterprise web applications and API-first architectures
• Analyzing client briefs to identify missing information and asking pertinent business and technical questions
• Breaking projects into modules, choosing appropriate technologies, and preparing realistic estimates
• Ensuring performance, security, accessibility, tests, and code quality
• Profiling and optimizing applications, integrating external systems, payment gateways, and APIs
• Collaborating closely with clients, Project Managers, Front-end Developers, DevOps, and QA
• Sharing ideas to improve architecture, tools, and workflow
