Senior Backend Product Engineer - Go and/or JVM (all genders)

HelloFresh is a global food solutions group and the world's leading meal kit provider, operating across 18 countries and 3 continents with brands including HelloFresh, Green Chef, EveryPlate, Chefs Plate, Factor_, and Youfoodz. The role is part of HelloTech, a global technology division of over 1,000 people powering the end-to-end food ecosystem with technology across personalization, forecasting, supply chain optimization, and food waste reduction.

• Hands-on experience working with AI tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) beyond casual experimentation.
• Strong fluency in Go or a JVM language (Java, Kotlin) with hands-on experience building distributed systems in production including event-driven flows and designing for partial failure.
• Solid experience building, deploying, and operating critical backend services in production.
• Technical comfort with distributed systems, messaging queues, containerization, and modern deployment infrastructure.
• Strong software engineering instincts including practical application of design methodologies such as TDD, BDD, or DDD.
• Excellent communication skills to operate effectively in an international, multi-disciplinary technical environment.
• Full ownership mindset with a bias to ship and finish tasks.
• Product sense with the ability to back opinions with data and user evidence.

• Maintain accountability for architecture, design, development, deployment, and operation of microservices under a full DevOps model.
• Take technical lead on backend-heavy product problems, designing, building, and operating scalable services and systems.
• Build event-driven systems using messaging technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS/SNS, and expose data via REST and gRPC interfaces.
• Work extensively with Docker, container orchestration via Kubernetes, and CI/CD automated deployment pipelines.
• Maintain strong commitment to testing, covering unit to end-to-end tests.
• Collaborate closely within cross-functional agile teams including product leads, frontend engineers, designers, and data teams.
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members through participation in code and architecture reviews.
• Leverage modern AI tools and workflows (e.g., Claude, Cursor) to increase engineering productivity.
• Operate and improve systems in production, including instrumentation and monitoring.
