Senior Optical Network Engineer II

Founded in 2017, it became a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: CRWV) in March 2025. The role is within the Infrastructure Networking sub department of CoreWeave Europe, based in Warsaw, Poland.

• Strong hands-on experience with both Ciena and Nokia optical networking platforms, including production deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and operational support.
• Extensive experience with dark-fiber networks covering fiber characterization, acceptance testing, optical loss budgets, ILA site design, OTDR testing, connector and splice loss, reflectance and ORL, chromatic dispersion, polarization-related impairments, fiber types, physical route diversity, shared-risk analysis, and troubleshooting fiber spans.
• Deep understanding of DWDM and optical transmission technologies such as coherent optical transmission, C-band and L-band systems, ROADMs, EDFAs, Raman amplification, coherent pluggable optics, 400G and 800G optical transmission, ZR and ZR+ technologies, FEC performance, OSNR and ESNR, Q-factor and Q-margin, PMD and PDL, optical power management, wavelength and spectrum planning, amplification and regeneration, alien wavelengths, and multi-vendor optical environments.
• Ability to convert proposed dark-fiber routes into production optical systems.
• Hands-on experience with Ciena platforms like Waveserver, 6500/RLS, and Nokia optical transport and photonic line systems.
• Experience designing and operating multi-vendor optical environments is highly desirable.

Preferred:

• Experience with IP networking concepts such as BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, Segment Routing, IP backbone architectures, and routing platforms including Juniper and Nokia.
• Familiarity with Python and other programming languages for network automation including REST APIs, NETCONF/YANG, gNMI, OpenConfig, network automation frameworks, configuration generation and validation, Git-based workflows, and telemetry monitoring systems.
• Comfortable using software and automation to solve network engineering problems.

• Design, engineer, and operate long-haul, metro, and data-center interconnect optical networks.
• Engineer DWDM systems across dark-fiber infrastructure.
• Design optical paths including amplification, regeneration, wavelength planning, spectrum allocation, and power budgets.
• Engineer and operate C-band and L-band optical systems.
• Deploy, configure, operate, and troubleshoot Nokia, Ciena, and other optical platforms.
• Commission new fiber spans, wavelengths, and optical systems.
• Perform fiber characterization and validate new dark-fiber routes before production deployment.
• Analyze optical performance characteristics such as span loss, connector loss, reflectance, dispersion, OSNR, Q-factor/Q-margin, and BER.
• Troubleshoot complex optical impairments using platform telemetry and optical test equipment.
• Design amplifier chains and understand EDFA and Raman amplification requirements.
• Engineer coherent optical transmission across metro and long-haul networks.
• Plan and execute network capacity expansions.
• Develop standards for optical network architecture, deployment, commissioning, and operations.
• Build monitoring and telemetry systems to detect optical degradation early.
• Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for optical network events.
• Work directly with dark-fiber providers, carriers, data-center operators, and equipment vendors.
• Evaluate and qualify new optical platforms, coherent optics, and photonic technologies.
• Develop automation and tooling to scale optical network operation efficiently.
• Mentor engineers and help establish technical standards and culture of the optical networking team.
