Azure Data Architect (GenAI/RAG/Agentic focus)

Svitla Systems Inc. is seeking an Azure Data Architect to work on building a scalable and governed data platform supporting analytics and reporting needs with a focus on GenAI, RAG, and Agentic AI applications. The projects involve onboarding diverse SQL and non-SQL data sources, designing and developing data marts, migrating databases to Snowflake, and enabling reporting through Power BI.

• 8+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering with strong enterprise data architecture ownership.
• Fundamental hands-on experience with Azure Cosmos DB including data modeling, partition-key strategy, indexing, RU/throughput optimization, scaling, consistency, and Change Feed.
• Proven production project experience with data architecture design for RAG, GenAI, or Agentic AI applications with demonstrated project ownership.
• Experience designing AI-ready data architecture and data layers for RAG/GenAI/Agentic applications covering ingestion, preparation, storage, governance, and retrieval readiness.
• Strong enterprise Azure Data Architecture experience including inheritance of legacy platforms and technology evaluation based on scale, cost, and business need.
• Strong practical knowledge of Azure Synapse Analytics components: Pipelines, Spark, Serverless SQL, Dedicated SQL Pools.
• Experience with Azure Databricks for data engineering and warehousing, with a technology-neutral approach.
• Knowledge of Azure SQL MI, SQL Server, and T-SQL.
• Experience with Azure Data Lake and Lakehouse architectures.
• Experience with Azure Functions.
• Strong skills in data modeling (fact tables, dimensional/star schemas), ingestion design, and platform modernization.
• Experience handling structured and unstructured data end-to-end (documents, PDFs, scans, images, emails).
• Expertise in metadata/configuration-driven ingestion and scalable reusable data-platform design.
• Ability to assess undocumented platforms and produce actionable architecture plans quickly.
• Strong communication skills with technical and business stakeholders.

Nice to have:

• Hands-on experience with document processing, OCR, text extraction, chunking, embeddings, or vector search/retrieval technologies.
• Familiarity with Azure Fabric as a comparison to Synapse/Databricks.
• Experience with dbt or similar data transformation frameworks as an alternative to Databricks-based ETL.

• Own and evolve the enterprise Azure data architecture, including assessing an existing, partially documented data platform.
• Design the data layer and architecture to support GenAI, RAG, and Agentic AI applications focusing on ingestion, preparation, storage, governance, and retrieval readiness.
• Own Cosmos DB architecture decisions including data modeling, partition-key strategy, indexing, RU/throughput and cost optimization, scaling, consistency, and Change Feed usage.
• Define and evolve data architecture across Azure Synapse Analytics (Pipelines, Spark, Serverless SQL, Dedicated SQL Pools), Databricks, Azure SQL MI/SQL Server, Data Lake/Lakehouse, and Azure Functions.
• Separate tactical short-term fixes from long-term target architecture and produce implementation-ready documentation and recommendations.
• Design ingestion and processing of structured and genuinely unstructured data such as documents, PDFs, scans, images, and emails.
• Design a metadata/configuration-driven, reusable ingestion framework to onboard new sources without rebuilding.
• Quickly assess existing/legacy environments and deliver concrete, actionable architecture recommendations within the first 1–2 weeks.
• Communicate and align architectural decisions with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
