Liferay Technical Architect

WPP Enterprise Solutions designs, builds, and operates growth systems for competitive businesses, leading clients in business transformation and marketing modernization. The company employs 12,000 experts globally across engineering, platforms, commerce, consulting, content transformation, CRM, and CX, and works with partners including Adobe, AWS, Braze, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, and Shopify.

• Strong hands-on Java engineering skills
• Proven Liferay DXP development experience (OSGi modules, Service Builder, client extensions, headless and REST APIs, fragments, workflow)
• Experience with commerce platforms such as Liferay Commerce or similar (catalogues, pricing, channels, carts, order flow)
• Solid integration engineering knowledge including REST, messaging, enterprise integration patterns, and error handling
• Proficiency with relational databases, query performance, and data modeling
• Practical cloud experience and self-built/maintained CI/CD pipelines
• Experience leading engineers through code review, pairing, and technical direction
• Experience building solutions operated by managed service or application support teams
• Competence in observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting as part of development
• Clear written and spoken English skills, producing usable technical documentation
• Comfortable working in a distributed, multi-location team across the UK and India

Nice to have:

• Liferay certification or contributions to the Liferay community
• Experience delivering into validated or regulated environments (GxP, CSV, data residency)
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and streaming platforms
• Experience with caching strategies at scale, including Liferay and CDN layers
• Experience tuning Elasticsearch or OpenSearch
• Prior experience with blended change and run models

• Write production code including Liferay customization, backend services, and integrations, handling complex and high-risk tasks
• Lead a distributed engineering team and manage technical delivery during sprints
• Run code reviews and set quality standards through testing and pairing
• Break down architecture into actionable work and challenge designs as needed
• Own build and release pipelines, environments, and branching strategy
• Debug and resolve complex issues across Liferay, integrations, and infrastructure
• Ensure solutions are operable and supported by managed service teams
• Support technical service transition including runbooks, operational acceptance, and monitoring
• Act as technical escalation for managed service teams on complex incidents
• Manage technical debt backlog and prioritize remediation within sprints
• Collaborate with product owners, QA, and client technical teams during refinement, demos, and clarifications
