Engineering Manager — Change Systems

Platform Modernization Engineering (PME) helps keep Netflix's engineering fleet healthy, secure, and current by designing and running large-scale migration and modernization campaigns that move the fleet forward — from dependency upgrades to infrastructure-level changes.

• Experience building and operating platform systems supporting large-scale, business-critical use cases with on-call responsibilities.
• Strong technical acumen in distributed systems and developer platforms.
• Experience building and leading inclusive engineering teams, attracting and retaining talent.
• Long-term strategic thinking with a platform mindset to define technical visions aligned with organizational goals.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, influence without authority, and partner with senior stakeholders across disciplines.
• Decision-making rigor using data, stakeholder input, and experiments.
• Fluency with AI-assisted engineering and GenAI-driven code transformation adoption at scale.
• Strong technical writing skills and track record of leading complex cross-functional technical projects.

Nice to have:

• Experience with large-scale code migration or modernization campaigns.
• Experience with fleet-management, dependency graph, or service catalog systems.
• Background in platform or infrastructure engineering.
• Familiarity with Java or Python in backend services.
• Experience designing platforms with agents as first-class consumers through APIs.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS including EC2, S3, EKS, and Kubernetes.

• Act as System Architect driving technical architecture and component integration.
• Define vision and strategy for the Campaigns experience as Product Manager.
• Identify needs, align with stakeholders, and create partnerships to drive impact.
• Advocate for change at scale and support organizational mindset around agentic campaigns.
• Serve as a thought partner to various stakeholders in setting vision and adoption paths for fleet-wide change management.
• Own the technical architecture direction for a composable, declarative platform.
• Advise and support engineers in navigating ambiguous, cross-domain technical decisions.
• Drive AI-assisted code modification as core infrastructure and advance agent-assisted engineering practices.
• Define adoption and adherence metrics, use historical data to predict bottlenecks, and prioritize automation investments.
• Own operational excellence including on-call responsibilities, telemetry, dashboards, and feedback loops.
• Communicate complex technical and product tradeoffs to influence cross-organization decisions.
• Lead, hire, coach, and develop engineers, fostering accountability and an inclusive team environment.
