Senior Manager, Site Reliability Engineering (Application) EMEA

Guidewire delivers software for Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance companies, supporting policy sales, underwriting, claims settlement, and billing. Its products include applications for data management, digital portals, and predictive analytics, running on the Guidewire Cloud Platform.

• Foundational background in software engineering with hands-on experience building business applications.
• Software-first approach with architectural knowledge of systems built in Go, Python, or Java.
• Proven leadership managing diverse engineering teams with high emotional intelligence.
• Experience implementing SRE principles including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction, and blameless postmortems.
• Experience managing major incidents as Incident Commander.
• Expertise building, deploying, and running infrastructure within AWS and Kubernetes ecosystems.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and GitOps.
• Experience leading teams building and supporting microservices using frameworks like Spring Framework and React.
• Experience with observability and APM tools, preferably Datadog.
• Experience managing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, TeamCity, or GitHub Actions.
• People management experience using Workday and ticketing tools like JIRA Service Management and ideation tools like AHA.
• Strong knowledge of cloud networking, security, role-based access control (RBAC), and vulnerability management.

Nice to have:

• AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications (e.g., CKA, CKAD).
• Familiarity with Guidewire's product suite (InsuranceSuite) or Guidewire Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of Guidewire-specific technologies such as Gosu.
• Interest or experience in emerging technologies like Kubevela and agentic AI/LLMs applied to SRE.
• Experience with enterprise business tools such as Coupa, Concur, and Salesforce.

• Manage and mentor a team of 10 to 17 SRE professionals, including senior individual contributors and technical leads.
• Build a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
• Set operational goals and work plans aligned with SRE best practices such as observability, reliability engineering, and Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs).
• Translate company strategy into clear department goals for the EMEA SRE group.
• Lead strategy for large cross-functional projects and solve complex reliability problems.
• Oversee regional incident management, act as escalation point, and ensure blameless postmortems lead to preventive actions.
• Collaborate with management across departments, aligning stakeholders on complex issues.
• Manage department resources and schedules to meet business goals.
• Promote automation to reduce manual work and improve engineering focus on value delivery.
• Act as available outside standard business hours for major escalations.
