Senior Software Engineer 5 — Developer Platform

The Infrastructure Engineering Organization at Netflix includes teams focused on modernization, resilience & reliability tooling, internal application interface development, improving technical health of systems, and collecting metrics to improve developer productivity. The teams include Engineering Operations Tooling, Health Integrity of the Paved Road (HIPR), and Change Systems, each with different missions related to infrastructure, health insights, and large-scale change automation.

• Experience in developer platform or productivity teams with proficiency in back-end development, preferably in Java or Python.
• Skilled software designer who researches and documents technical tradeoffs clearly and concisely.
• Ability to manage projects independently from design to production.
• Able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Passionate about writing tests and has experience solving testing and reliability challenges.
• Data-driven problem-solver who seeks creative approaches for deriving useful signals from noisy systems.
• Collaborates effectively with customer and partner teams to execute software change campaigns.
• Advocates for developer productivity using tooling investments for better discovery, learning, and support.

Nice to have:

• Passion for maintaining the technical health of software ecosystems.
• Platform engineering expertise.
• Familiarity managing applications in AWS and core AWS services like EC2 and S3.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes or other container management solutions.
• Experience designing, building, and operating continuous delivery and continuous integration systems.
• Full-stack development experience including persistence and data layers, business logic, service APIs, and front-end user experience (UX).

• Write software that assists other engineers in their software development processes.
• Develop applications using Java, Python and other programming languages.
• Scale services and applications to efficiently handle hundreds of users and thousands of requests per minute.
• Engage with customers and product managers to ensure the delivery of necessary tools and features.
• Write design documents and drive changes across teams and organizations.
• Ensure the reliability and success of productivity tools.
• Work across different layers of the stack, focusing expertise on one layer while maintaining familiarity with others.
• Choose storage solutions and design data models for relational and non-relational datasets.
• Write queries and reports to power analytics and dashboards for customer teams and organizations.
