Backend Software Engineer

Client is one of the global leaders in maritime transport, specializing in container transport. They operate a fleet of over 250 modern container ships serving customers worldwide, connecting more than 600 ports and transporting several million containers annually. Their IT department develops and maintains internal IT systems responsible for planning, monitoring, and accounting for the company's core business, operating globally including the Gdańsk office established in 2020.

• 3+ years of back-end development experience with Python or Scala.
• 2–3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, EventBridge (including Pipes), DynamoDB and S3.
• Practical experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB), including data modelling and query optimisation.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Knowledge of good coding practices, unit and integration testing, code reviews, and version control (Git).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly CloudFormation.
• Genuine interest in technology and architecture, with openness to exploring and discussing different solutions.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice to have:

• Previous Scala experience is a plus, alternatively Kotlin or Java background.
• Experience with observability tools such as CloudWatch, X-Ray, or similar.
• Understanding of HL IT products and the container shipping business.

• Develop and maintain back-end services and APIs on AWS.
• Build serverless and event-driven features using Lambda, SQS and EventBridge.
• Write clean, tested and maintainable code, and take part in code reviews.
• Work with product owners, front-end developers and architects to deliver features from start to finish.
• Help monitor, troubleshoot and improve services running in production.
