Senior Backend Software Engineer

Client is one of the global leaders in maritime transport, especially container transport. They operate a fleet of over 250 modern container ships serving customers worldwide, connecting more than 600 ports and transporting several million containers annually. The client's IT department develops and maintains internal IT systems responsible for planning, monitoring, and accounting for the company's core business, operating globally with an office in Gdańsk since 2020. Jit Team is a Polish company employing over 770 experts, offering developmental projects, benefits, and professional development programs, supporting educational and charitable initiatives locally.

• 5+ years of back-end development experience with Python or Scala.
• 5+ years of hands-on AWS experience in production.
• Experience with AWS services: API Gateway, Step Functions, ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Kinesis, and/or Amazon MSK (Kafka).
• Knowledge of RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and S3.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture, message processing, idempotency, retries, dead-letter queues, and schema evolution.
• Strong PostgreSQL optimisation skills including query analysis, indexing, partitioning, connection pooling, and replication.
• Experience with database migrations, backups, and point-in-time recovery.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, especially CloudFormation.
• Knowledge of unit, integration, load, and performance testing.
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.

• Design, develop and optimise serverless and event-driven backend services on AWS.
• Improve AWS architecture regarding cost, performance, scalability, and resilience.
• Optimise event stream processing including throughput, latency, message ordering, retries, and error handling.
• Improve PostgreSQL performance via query optimisation, indexing, partitioning, and data modelling.
• Implement observability solutions such as metrics, distributed tracing, alerting, and SLOs.
• Ensure code quality through unit and integration testing as well as load and performance testing.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and evaluate technical trade-offs.
