Head of Engineering - Developer Experience & Platform (f/m/d)

• Significant software engineering experience with hands-on coding in languages like Java and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding and experience with AI-native software development, including tools like GitHub Copilot.
• Proven leadership in developer experience, platform engineering, or developer productivity in mid-to-large technology organisations.
• Deep knowledge of software development lifecycle and engineering best practices.
• Experience leading CI/CD practices and developer tooling ecosystems.
• Strong expertise in AWS, infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), container platforms, serverless, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with FinOps, budget management, tagging strategies, and cost optimization.
• Successful track record in organisation-wide change programmes and stakeholder collaboration.
• Proficient in designing and using developer experience metrics frameworks such as DORA and SPACE.
• Leadership skills to inspire and grow teams in distributed environments.
• Strong commercial awareness including budget and ROI decision-making.
• Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on delivery.
• Experience working in global distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones and cultures.

Developer Experience Strategy & Tooling:

• Own and evolve the Developer Experience programme, defining vision, strategy, and roadmap.
• Identify productivity blockers through data and direct engagement with engineering teams.
• Drive organisation-wide improvements to technology, tooling, and engineering processes.
• Establish and track DevEx metrics and KPIs such as DORA metrics and developer satisfaction scores.
• Manage developer tools portfolio and budgets.
• Lead rollout of new tooling including CI/CD platforms, IDE capabilities, and code quality/security tools.

AI-Native Development & Agentic Workflows:

• Lead AI-native software development strategy and adoption.
• Evaluate and implement AI-augmented development tools including AI coding assistants and intelligent CI/CD pipelines.
• Promote AI-native software best practices and continuously evaluate AI tooling.
• Design and deliver training and enablement programmes to enhance AI fluency.
• Measure and report AI adoption impact on productivity and code quality.

Cloud Platform Optimisation:

• Lead AWS cloud platform standardisation, defining golden paths and reference architectures.
• Drive cloud migration and infrastructure modernization improving reliability, scalability, and security.
• Own AWS FinOps practices, budgeting frameworks, and cost optimisation.
• Build internal developer platform capabilities for cloud abstraction and self-service.
• Ensure cloud decisions prioritize developer experience alongside cost, security, and scalability.

Leadership & Organisational Impact:

• Build and lead teams in developer experience, platform engineering, and tooling.
• Shape technical culture, engineering standards, and working practices.
• Participate in strategic planning, headcount, and organisational design as part of engineering leadership.
