Senior Software Engineer, Layer1

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8+ years experience, or equivalent work experience.
• Expert knowledge of C, C++, and Python.
• Knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
• Understanding of digital communication technologies such as modulation and signal encoding is a plus.
• Knowledge of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus.
• Experience working with low-level hardware components is a plus.
• Applied understanding of software engineering principles.
• Strong problem solving and software troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to design solutions and implement features independently.
• Ability to work in small teams.

• Interface with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to develop new Layer1 features.
• Architect, design, and manage feature development.
• Develop and maintain features using C, C++, and Python; contribute to specifications; build automated tests and test infrastructure.
• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring new Layer1 components like Phys and Transceivers to market.
• Design software control interfaces with hardware engineers for Layer1 components.
• Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
• Work with Customer Support Engineers and customers to analyze and resolve network problems.
• Collaborate with System Test Engineers to diagnose and fix test issues.
• Mentor new and junior engineers in Arista's software development environment.
