Senior Backend + Infrastructure Engineer (Platform)

Soda is a data quality layer company serving clients such as Disney, Ralph Lauren, CBRE, HelloFresh, 2K Games, and Nubank. Their open-source engine, Soda Core, is used by companies like Tesla, Slack, Adyen, Walmart, and JPMC. Founded in 2019, Soda builds a Data & AI performance monitoring platform that spans data collection to automated decision-making, commercialized through Soda Cloud.

• 5+ years building backend software at a product company with real production service ownership.
• Strong Java skills including APIs, async processing, concurrency, and performance tuning.
• Solid SQL knowledge in backend context; experience with schema design, query optimization, and migrations (using MySQL and ClickHouse).
• Architectural judgment on API and service design impacting data flow, latency, and failure modes.
• Experience running services on Kubernetes and AWS (EKS, IAM, RDS, S3).
• Familiarity with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, GitOps tools like ArgoCD/Flux, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
• Proficient with observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry; writing tests as habit.
• Experience shipping production code with AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and directing them effectively.
• Ability to work independently in a distributed, asynchronous team.
• Fluent English.

• Design and build robust backend services and APIs in Java for a multi-tenant SaaS platform.
• Ship product features end-to-end working with product and customers.
• Improve reliability, performance, and scalability of owned services in production on AWS/Kubernetes.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and observability.
• Enhance systems enabling agentic development including fast CI feedback and reliable dev environments.
• Drive architectural decisions from service design to platform evolution.
