Data Engineer (Stores/Customer Order)

The Data Engineering department at Tesco Technology processes data related to retail and technology, including order and delivery data to optimize logistics, managing customer orders, suppliers, and products data to support fulfillment operations, and ensuring data integrity and security.

• Experience with data processing using Apache Spark in Scala or Python
• Knowledge of data storage systems such as Apache HDFS, CEPH S3, or cloud alternatives
• Experience with resource management using Apache Yarn or cloud alternatives
• Knowledge of lakehouse technologies like Apache Hive or Kyuubi or alternatives
• Familiarity with workflow schedulers such as Airflow or alternatives

Nice to have:

• Functional programming
• Experience with Apache Kafka
• Experience with Kubernetes
• Stream processing
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines

• Creating and maintaining optimal data pipeline architecture
• Assembling large, complex data sets meeting functional and non-functional business requirements
• Identifying and implementing internal process improvements such as automating manual processes and redesigning infrastructure for scalability
• Building infrastructure for extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources
• Building analytics tools to provide actionable insights on customer acquisition and operational efficiency
• Collaborating with stakeholders including Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams for data infrastructure support
• Ensuring data separation and security
• Creating data tools for analytics and data scientist teams to optimize products
• Working with data and analytics experts to enhance data system functionality
