Senior Software Engineer - Rust - Backend - Pro

Kraken, founded in 2011, is a leading crypto platform trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions worldwide, offering spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services for individual and institutional clients. The Pro team manages trading backend services including the matching engine, market data gateways, and APIs, coding primarily in Rust and working agile globally.

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building financial trading-focused products.
• Proficiency in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust.
• Security-first mindset in system design to ensure robustness.
• Ability to autonomously debug issues across the stack (OS, network, application).
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and technologies, including RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven systems.
• Effective collaboration with product teams to gather requirements and design systems.
• Complete end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries.
• Provide mentorship and contribute to defining the technical culture.

• Design and implement reliable and high-performance Rust services and libraries for trading, payments, and crypto experiences.
• Write reusable, testable, and efficient code that scales across teams.
• Collaborate on the architecture of large-scale distributed systems, translating product requirements into resilient, low-latency solutions.
• Work alongside experienced Rust engineers to maintain a high-performance engineering culture.
