Senior Backend Engineer, Trusted Agentic Development

GitLab is an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, trusted by more than 50 million users and over 50% of the Fortune 100. The role is within the Trusted Agentic Development team of GitLab's Developer Experience group, which builds platforms to help engineers validate agent-generated software across multiple programming languages.

• Hands-on experience building software with artificial intelligence agents, ideally involving multiple programming languages.
• Deep understanding of the validation gap between passing tests and production-quality software.
• Ability to design systems with judgment on general versus language-specific solutions.
• Proven prototyping and shipping skills.
• Capability to influence engineers across the organization via working code and sound reasoning.
• Strong written communication skills suited for an all-remote, asynchronous environment.
• Alignment with GitLab's core values, including collaboration, iteration, and transparency.

Nice to have:

• Experience specifically with languages Rust, Ruby, and Go in the context of agentic development.

• Own the technical thesis for validating software when an AI agent is the author and translate it into an actionable architecture.
• Prototype feedback mechanisms that detect discrepancies between passing tests and working software.
• Develop language-aware approaches for Rust, Ruby, and Go under a shared model of "trusted" validation.
• Design and implement mid-loop feedback systems allowing agents to self-correct towards functional software.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to measure adoption, improve trust, and enhance validation quality.
• Set technical direction, review designs, and mentor teammates to grow their technical judgment.
