Senior Back-end Engineer (NodeJS)

SwingDev—a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance. The company focuses on making home insurance smarter and more proactive by using technology to bring fresh solutions and create digital products that support customers.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Practical knowledge of at least one relational database system such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
• Experience with microservices and system design patterns.
• Ability to participate in software design and architecture discussions and decisions.
• Independent problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication across technical and non-technical teams.
• Responsibility, accountability, and ownership attitude.
• Experience implementing the test pyramid (unit, integration, end-to-end tests).
• Effective use of good security practices.
• Willingness to learn and adapt skills as needed.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex.
• Good command of English (written and spoken).
• Availability for occasional afternoon/evening meetings due to multinational team coordination.

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS deployment processes.
• Experience with profiling and performance optimization.
• Experience providing high-quality feedback during code reviews.

• Architect and implement backends and their integration with various data stores and third-party APIs.
• Work in an agile environment on projects impactful to the business.
• Support reliable databases and APIs used for real-time automated decision making.
• Deploy software using industry-standard tooling like Kubernetes clusters and Lambda functions.
• Investigate and resolve production issues by analyzing code, data, and system behavior.
• Implement robust automated test suites to ensure high quality and low failure rate.
• Follow security best practices and work in a DevOps style emphasizing Defense in Depth.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Senior Engineers, and Architects to translate business processes into production code.
• Take ownership and responsibility for delivered work with creative freedom.
• Continuously develop programming skills and learn about US tech business practices.
