Staff Backend Engineer Consumer

HelloFresh is a global technology organisation of 1000+ people building digital products for a subscription-based, direct-to-consumer food experience including meal kits, ready-to-eat meals, pet food, and premium meat & seafood. The HelloTech team in Warsaw contributes to building scalable, data-driven products used across all markets, working with an international team and modern tech stack.

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS).
• Strong hands-on proficiency in Go or another modern backend language (Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, Node.js), with willingness to work primarily in Go.
• Practical experience integrating LLMs or AI services into production systems via APIs/SDKs.
• Daily hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) with understanding of context influence.
• Solid understanding of modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes) and observability practices.
• Experience translating ambiguous product problems (search relevance, recommendation quality, conversational UX) into clear technical roadmaps.
• Collaborative, low-ego approach to problem solving and strong mentoring skills.
• Excellent communication skills for working with senior stakeholders and distributed international teams.

Nice to have:

• Prior experience with search or recommendation systems.

• Lead technical architecture for unified AI Assistant experiences, including conversational and personalized search as well as proactive in-app recommendations.
• Own end-to-end technical decisions around integrating LLM-powered capabilities, balancing quality, latency, and cost.
• Act as the technical bridge between Shopping AI & Search squad, neighboring squads, and product/platform stakeholders.
• Define and drive engineering best practices for AI-powered systems, including observability, graceful degradation, and testing strategies.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design discussions, and mentoring.
• Use AI coding tools (e.g. Claude, Cursor) in daily development and promote their adoption across the team.
• Shape the technical roadmap by identifying and resolving architectural bottlenecks early.
