Senior Data Engineer

BlackLine is a technology-based company specialized in cloud software that automates and controls the entire financial close process. Founded in 2001, it is a leading provider of AI-powered SaaS products aimed at modernizing finance and accounting functions. The role is part of the Business Intelligence & Analytics Engineering team working on an AI-powered Invoice-to-Cash (I2C) solution that improves accounts receivable efficiency.

• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake including data modelling, performance tuning, and security.
• Proficiency in Power BI report design, semantic modelling (DAX, Power Query), and incremental refresh.
• Proven experience building production ELT/ETL pipelines using tools like dbt, Apache Airflow, or Azure Data Factory.
• Expert-level SQL skills and proficiency in at least one programming language (preferably Python) for data processing.
• Experience using AI-driven tools such as Cursor and Claude for development acceleration.
• Strong data quality and observability mindset with ability to build monitoring and alerting.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of data products from ambiguous requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-team collaboration.

Nice to have:

• Experience in regulated industries (finance, accounting, fintech) with data governance and auditability.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, AWS Glue, and cloud-native data architectures.
• Experience with streaming/event-driven ingestion using Kafka or Azure Event Hubs.
• Knowledge of Responsible AI principles and building trustworthy AI/ML data infrastructure.
• Contribution to open-source data tooling or interest in emerging modern data stack patterns.

• Design, implement, and maintain ELT/ETL data pipelines moving data into Snowflake.
• Develop enterprise-grade Power BI reports and dashboards with semantic models and row-level security.
• Shape and evolve the end-to-end data platform architecture ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Apply modern data modelling practices with modular, tested, and documented data models.
• Use AI-driven development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to accelerate data engineering tasks.
• Implement data quality frameworks including automated testing, monitoring, and alerting.
• Conduct code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing on best practices.
• Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Finance stakeholders to translate data needs into products.
