Senior Software Engineer - Rust - Core Services

Payward, the parent company behind Kraken and several other financial services, has built a modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platform focused on advancing an open, global financial system. Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms with over 10 million users, offering trading, staking, and OTC services for individual and institutional clients. The Platform and Core Engineering teams focus on building secure, resilient, and scalable systems as the backbone of Kraken, operating in regulated and security-sensitive environments.

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building and scaling shared systems, internal platforms, and supporting multiple product roadmaps.
• Proficient in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust.
• Security-first mindset during system design to ensure robustness.
• Ability to autonomously debug issues across OS, network, and application stacks.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and related technologies including RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven systems.
• Effective collaboration with product teams to gather requirements and constraints.
• Take complete end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries.

• Design and implement robust Rust services and foundational libraries for core infrastructure prioritizing correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Write reusable, testable, and efficient code for scalable and operationally resilient production environments.
• Collaborate on large-scale distributed systems architecture for low-latency, fault-tolerant global trading and internal platforms.
• Work alongside hundreds of experienced Rust engineers contributing to a culture grounded in ownership, rigor, and craftsmanship.
