Staff Software Engineer

Kontakt.io is hiring for a Staff Software Engineer role involving work on international projects within small teams and a flat structure.

• Minimum 7 years of engineering experience with Java/Kotlin including leadership or architecting roles
• Deep understanding of both object-oriented and functional programming paradigms with sound judgment on their appropriate application
• Proven experience architecting and operating container-based distributed systems in production
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools integrated into everyday building, debugging, and design workflows
• Proactive mindset to identify and fix issues independently
• Ability to operate effectively in complex systems with cross-team dependencies without perfect initial scoping
• Demonstrated capability in mentoring and improving other engineers through code reviews and design documentation
• Experience with Kafka or similar event-driven architectures is a plus
• Knowledge of Angular, Spring, and PostgreSQL is required
• Nice to have: experience with Claude Code, IoT technologies

• Own technical direction for complex, ambiguous problems and translate fuzzy product goals into sustainable systems
• Design and build fast, scalable APIs and services that are straightforward for engineers to integrate with
• Architect and contribute to event-driven, event-sourced systems (Kafka or similar) ensuring production reliability
• Design and build frontend user interfaces, making informed decisions on logic distribution across the stack
• Lead design reviews, mentor senior engineers, and constructively challenge shortcuts that may incur future costs
• Develop and deploy container-based applications with a focus on operability
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, SRE, and other engineering teams to ensure systems are observable and supportable
• Actively incorporate AI-assisted development tools into daily workflow as a productivity lever
