Senior Backend Engineer - Data Core (remote, Europe)

Modash is a company founded in 2018 that provides a platform helping brands find, understand, and work with social media creators across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The company serves over 2,700 clients including Stanley 1913, Sennheiser, and NordVPN. Modash operates with a team of nearly 100 people distributed across more than 20 countries and has secured $12M in Series A investment. It focuses on building tools to support influencer marketing at scale, managing data on over 400 million creators.

• Experience building large-scale backend or data systems focusing on reliability, throughput, latency, and cost.
• Proven track record of shipping systems from concept to production with ownership over architecture, implementation, release, and operation.
• Strong design skills for distributed systems with understanding of partial failures, retries, idempotency, backpressure, and scaling.
• Experience building resilient integrations with third-party APIs and handling rate limits and instability.
• Knowledge of proxy management and request routing challenges at high volume and anti-bot systems.
• Demonstrated operational ownership skills including observability, alerting, and runbooks.
• Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems by gathering requirements and making progress without fully specified tickets.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate across teams and discuss tradeoffs effectively.

• Experience with social-media APIs, data-quality frameworks, large-scale data collection, and freshness and coverage monitoring.
• Curiosity about the creator economy.

• Build and evolve systems that collect and maintain profiles for 400M+ creators across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, ensuring data freshness for various products.

• Design resilient backend services that handle API instability, rate limits, provider outages, and platform changes without impacting customers.

• Improve the efficiency and economics of data collection by optimizing requests, proxy calls, retries, storage, and compute cycles.

• Take full production ownership including shaping problems, designing architecture, coding, reviewing, shipping, monitoring, and improving operational safeguards.

• Manage situations when social platforms change behavior causing data collection issues by tracing failures and designing resilient solutions.

• Redesign systems such as subscription mechanisms to balance customer value with system cost.

• Collaborate with Data Search engineers to agree on improved interfaces and contracts between systems.

• Review and model request routing approaches across proxy providers to optimize throughput and failure modes.

• Improve observability, data-quality checks, and alerting to proactively catch regressions before affecting customers.
