Architect

Hitachi Energy is a company working within the Grid Automation domain, focusing on development of performance-critical software systems for power grid management and monitoring, involving power system operations and industrial automation systems such as SCADA. They are engaged in developing real-time software for critical infrastructure worldwide.

• University degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience in senior technical or architecture roles.
• Advanced proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20) with knowledge of RAII, smart pointers, STL, concurrency, and memory management.
• Proven experience with multithreading, synchronization primitives, asynchronous I/O, and real-time system design.
• Proficiency with build systems like CMake, Visual Studio, and cross-platform development for Windows and Linux.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture patterns.
• Demonstrated experience with performance profiling, optimization, and low-latency systems.
• Understanding of software architecture principles and secure, scalable system design.
• Good understanding of unit and integration testing techniques and testing frameworks.
• Experience with Cloud, DevOps, and deep cybersecurity expertise.
• Experience with UI and web development.
• Knowledge of non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, and security.
• Practical experience in power grid management systems including WAMS/WAMPAC, PMU data, protection and control applications.
• Familiarity with power grid operations and standards including industrial automation systems (SCADA, IED, RTU).
• Experience with industrial protocols and standards (IEC 61850, IEC-60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA, IEEE C37.118).
• Experience working directly with power grid industry clients and system integration.
• Ability to translate customer requirements into technical designs.
• Solid understanding of numerical methods, signal processing, and control fundamentals.
• Understanding of power system dynamics and stability challenges from renewables.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication skills, and team collaboration.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

How you’ll make an impact:

• Lead system design in areas like multithreading, synchronization, I/O, and latency requirements for real-time operation.
• Architect interop layers connecting high-performance C++ cores to managed runtime services (.NET, Rust) with minimal latency overhead.
• Drive performance optimization and scalability: profile threading behavior, minimize lock contention, reduce memory allocations in critical paths, and ensure predictable latency at scale.
• Propagate modern programming practices and techniques based on the latest C++ standard.
• Maintain high code quality through code reviews, unit testing, and adherence to SOLID, KISS, DRY and industry best practices.
• Mentor development teams on system design, best practices and maintaining code quality in performance-critical sections.
• Lead technical architecture reviews, design documentation, and roadmaps for feature development, refactoring initiatives, and legacy code modernization.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to transform requirements into clear architectural designs.
• Support strategic technology decisions on dependencies, build tooling, dependency management, and secure software supply chain practices.
• Maintain cross-platform support: drive modernization of build systems, ensure consistency across multiple deployment environments, and support Linux/Windows compatibility.
• Drive Linux development and deployment strategies: architect solutions for Linux environments.
• Contribute to achieving business goals by designing, developing, and delivering high-quality software solutions.
• Continuously enhance existing systems and contribute to new features.
• Work effectively within an agile environment, continually expanding technical expertise and understanding of the business domain.
