Software Engineer II - Rust - Pro

Payward is the parent company of Kraken and other financial services, operating a globally accessible financial infrastructure platform focused on advancing an open financial system. Kraken, founded in 2011, is a well-established crypto platform serving over 10 million global users, offering spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services to individuals and institutions. The Pro team works on trading backend services including the matching engine, market data gateways, and APIs, using technology stacks mainly in Rust and C++.

• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building financial trading focused products.
• Proficient in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust.
• Experience with modern C++, including performance-sensitive, low-latency systems.
• Security-first mindset in system design to ensure robustness.
• Ability to debug issues across OS, network, and application stacks autonomously.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and technologies including RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven systems.
• Effective collaboration with product teams to gather requirements and constraints.
• Complete end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries.

• Design and implement robust Rust and C++ services and libraries for trading, payments, and crypto experiences with a focus on reliability and performance.
• Write reusable, testable, and efficient code supporting revenue-critical systems without compromising safety or security.
• Collaborate on large-scale distributed systems architecture, translating product requirements into resilient, low-latency solutions.
• Work alongside experienced Rust and C++ engineers contributing to a high-performance, product-driven engineering culture.
