Software Engineer

Bayer is a company operating in the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on Pharma R&D environment.

• Excellent university degree in Computer Science or equivalent natural science degree (e.g., computational biologist/chemist).
• 3–5+ years of professional experience with expert-level skills in at least two modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Kotlin, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Experience with backend development and/or frontend frameworks such as React.js.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containerization, and serverless architecture.
• Hands-on expertise in data engineering and/or data science.
• Deep understanding of Agile, CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Comfortable making technical decisions in ambiguous problem spaces.

Nice to have:

• Experience working with natural scientists and in regulated environments (e.g., GxP).

• Design, develop, and continuously deploy complex technical solutions (full stack) in a fast-moving, regulated Pharma R&D environment.
• Drive architectural decisions for scalable systems and contribute hands-on development while working in cross-functional teams with IT and R&D experts (biology, chemistry, pharmacology).
• Define and execute a technical vision for the R&D application landscape with a focus on business value.
• Identify technical risks and gaps, show solution approaches, and guide the team towards robust solutions.
• Introduce new technologies, improve engineering workflows, and challenge existing patterns.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality and delivery speed.
• Combine technical expertise with scientific understanding (e.g., computational biology or computational chemistry).
