Senior Scala Engineer

• Successfully completed a university degree in computer science or a comparable field of study.
• 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience, including production-critical systems.
• Willingness to write production code in Scala; language background does not matter, and Scala experience is a strong plus.
• Experience building and maintaining cloud infrastructure on AWS, not only using it.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
• End-to-end responsibility for topics, from analysis through production and operations.
• Ability to take ownership, find answers independently, and move topics forward without detailed instructions.
• Strong communication skills, including keeping the team informed, raising questions early, and communicating when something is at risk.
• Fluency in Polish and very good communication in English.

Nice to have:

• Commercial experience with Scala and Play Framework, or with another functional language.
• Frontend experience.
• Experience with TypeScript or Python (AWS Lambda).
• Background in payments or card processing, including acquiring, ISO 8583, card schemes, or network tokenization.
• Knowledge of PCI DSS requirements.

• Develop and maintain the main payment gateway written in Scala with Play Framework, running on AWS.
• Build a standalone network tokenization service, managing card-scheme integrations and the token lifecycle.
• Integrate with acquiring systems over ISO 8583 and with Visa and Mastercard APIs for network tokenization.
• Build and maintain the team's AWS infrastructure.
• Develop supporting components as AWS Lambda functions in TypeScript and Python, and develop Python-based test tooling.
• Work with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
• Apply security practices required by PCI DSS across development, deployment, and operations.
• Collaborate with other teams in an English-speaking team spread across Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and Finland.
• Take ownership of topics end-to-end and drive them forward proactively, in close contact with the team.
• Share knowledge and support less experienced engineers in the team.
