Podsumowanie oferty

As Staff Engineer, you will lead the architecture of the control and context planes for Zyte API, a platform for web data extraction. You will build and operate foundational infrastructure and service contracts across multiple engineering teams, using technologies including Java, Python, Kubernetes, and Kafka.

Wymagania

10+ years of experience building scalable distributed backend systems, with a track record of authoring internal platforms or core libraries adopted by engineering teams.
Expertise in Java, including reactive frameworks such as Vert.x or Netty, and strong proficiency in Python.
Deep experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers, including schema evolution and backward compatibility in mission-critical environments.
Hands-on expertise with production Kubernetes at scale, Terraform, and event streaming with Kafka.
Experience designing automated telemetry pipelines, materialized views, or feature stores that adapt system behavior based on production data.
Experience defining SLOs/SLIs, analyzing blast radius, and designing fault-tolerant systems around service contracts.
Strong technical writing skills and ability to articulate complex designs and drive technical alignment across multifunctional teams.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for a globally distributed, remote-first environment.
Curiosity and interest in continuous learning and evaluating new tools, architectures, and techniques.

Nice to have:

Hands-on experience with durable execution engines such as Temporal, DBOS, or similar workflow platforms.
Experience in MLOps, including model serving, performance monitoring, and drift detection in production environments.
Familiarity with zero-trust networking and service meshes, including SPIRE, mTLS, Cilium, Istio, or Envoy.
Experience building CLIs, SDKs, or project generators adopted across an engineering organization.
Familiarity with the technical challenges of large-scale web data extraction.
Contributions to or maintenance of open-source projects in distributed systems or data extraction.

Obowiązki

Architect the control and context planes, advancing the control plane into a production substrate and building the context plane to aggregate operational signals and create automated feedback loops.
Maintain and refine multi-language client libraries (Java and Python), standardized workload specifications, Helm charts, and deployment pipelines for use across product teams.
Define inter-service contracts, including gRPC and Protocol Buffers definitions, API gateway transcoding, versioning policies, and schema evolution rules.
Operate the platform substrate with infrastructure engineers, including Kubernetes, Terraform, HAProxy/Nginx ingresses, Confluent Kafka, event-billing pipelines, Valkey, and database modernization from MySQL to PostgreSQL.
Lead Requests for Discussion (RFDs) on platform initiatives, including workflow orchestration with Temporal/DBOS, gateway orchestration, multi-cluster routing, and automated failover.
Establish SLOs and error budgets, and implement health-aware traffic isolation and automated weighted canary deployments.
Participate in the shared infrastructure on-call rotation, lead incident post-mortems, and translate operational lessons into platform improvements.
Mentor engineers across squads on distributed systems design, review system proposals, and establish engineering best practices.
