Senior Database Engineer

Charles River Development (CRD) is the FinTech division of State Street, providing cloud-based Front Office technology that forms the foundation of the State Street Alpha® Platform, a front-to-back solution in the finance industry. The CRD Engineering organization is innovating by transitioning from monolithic software to cloud-based technology using Microsoft Azure, Kafka, and Snowflake.

• 10+ years professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications supported by RDBMS databases
• 5+ years experience as a Database Architect or similar role supporting enterprise applications
• Extensive hands-on experience with RDBMS and distributed data platforms
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for database troubleshooting
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning in MS SQL Server
• Proven ability to deliver high-performance production-quality software on schedule
• Ability to work independently, multitask, and adapt quickly to changes
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex technical concepts

Nice to have:

• Expertise in hardware sizing, configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies
• Experience with NoSQL databases
• Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database
• Minimum 7 years working with Agile development methodology
• Experience developing applications for financial markets (Fixed Income, Trading, FX, Risk, etc.)

Database Design and Architecture:

• Design and implement scalable, performant, and highly available distributed database solutions
• Collaborate with scrum teams to deliver database designs meeting best practices and business requirements
• Maintain documentation of database design, data models, configurations, and processes

Database Development and Optimization:

• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to support application development
• Optimize performance via indexing, query optimization, and database tuning
• Monitor performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and recommend solutions
• Collaborate on performance test strategies and develop toolsets for synthetic datasets
• Implement and manage database security including access controls, encryption, and auditing

Database Administration:

• Work with production DBA team to resolve database production issues timely
• Monitor and maintain database health ensuring data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery
• Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments

Collaboration and Leadership:

• Provide thought leadership on database technologies and data modeling
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of database systems
• Mentor junior database engineers
